Weddings
As Music Director for St. John's Parish at Creighton University, I am blessed to minister for celebrations of the Sacrament of Marriage. For now, I'm offering this page as a convenient means for couples who have already hired me for their ceremonies to complete payment for services. Later in 2008, I hope to offer music and scripture selections, referrals for local musicians and more.
Planning your wedding music
1. Contact me and check availability. Once your date is reserved with St. John's, contact me and we'll make arrangements if I am available on your date.
2. Schedule a planning meeting. We'll want to meet 6-8 weeks before your wedding day to plan musical selections and answer questions about your ceremony.
3. Work out details of your liturgy. Meet with your presiding minister and determine:
- whether you are celebrating a Eucharistic liturgy (wedding mass) or sacramental liturgy (ceremony outside mass)
- additional musicians (harp, strings, flute, vocalist, etc.) You will need to make these arrangements yourself, but I am happy to refer trusted musicians to you...
- the order of your procession (seating of parents, procession of wedding party, bridal procession). Are you including flower girls/ ring bearers? How many attendants will you have?
- what ritual/devotional elements you wish to include in your ceremony (unity candle, flowers to Mary, etc)
- scripture readings (very important, as my first step is to find music which enhances the message you are proclaiming together in scripture selection)
4. Get together. We'll meet together as planned in Step 2 and hammer it all out!
5. Make a payment. My standard fee for ministry at weddings is 250.00 USD*, which includes consultation and planning, and ministry for the service itself. I ask that a deposit of 100.00* USD be paid at the time of the planning meeting, and the balance be paid for one week prior to the ceremony.
